Who are the “Coolest Transformers” exactly? While there isn’t a definitive list, the majority of us will tend to agree that the perennial favourites are the leaders of the Autobot and Decepticon factions, Optimus Prime and Megatron. We can pretty much agree that both of them are pretty friggin’ cool, but that leaves us with some Tranformers that come to mind immediately and some that are a little more obscure. The focus will be more on Generation 1 because I’m a fanboy like that

Keep in mind that this post is merely an approximation of who the coolest are.

The criteria for being selected into the Top 10 was solely based on their character and how awesome it would be to add them to a collection.

Here are the Top 10 Coolest Transformers from Generation 1!

Sixshot is literally a one robot army of the Decepticon faction. Created by Shockwave – being the first of two Transformers able to assume six-different modes (the other being Autobot Quickswitch), he can transform into Jet Fighter mode, Car mode, Pistol mode, Flying Wolf and Tank mode. Sixshot, you had me at Flying Wolf and Tank mode…

Grimlock – leader of the Dinobots and the Robot equivalent of the Incredible Hulk – while lacking in smarts he more than makes up for brute force and a penchant for battle and destruction whilst fighting for the Autobot cause – all of which make for pretty badass and funny character. Plus his alternate mode is a friggin’ T-Rex!

Hot Rod – he’s just as cool and suave as an Autobot can get. While not narcissistic like his brethren based on exotic supercars – Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, he’s definitely an Autobot that you can ride to a bar with, hang out and slam back a few beers with.

Willing to die for the Autobot cause, he reluctantly accepted the mantle as the Leader of the Autobots following Optimus’ Prime untimely death in the Animated Movie.

Bumblebee – In the live action movie from 2007, he gets an upgrade from Volkswagen Beetle to Chevy Camaro. One of the smaller of the Autobots, always willing to prove himself to Optimus Prime and his comrades, what he lacks in size he more than makes up for in heart and guts. As a testament to his sheer heart and determination to fight for the Autobot cause and save humanity, he fights despite having his legs blown off in the first live-action movie.

Jazz – being a Porsche 935 Turbo since his Generation 1 days and being madeover into a Pontiac Solstice for the movie, already made him cool, but the fact that he being well versed in earth culture, blasting music and busting rhymes despite being a robot gives him a deserving spot on one of the “Coolest” Transformers list.

Devastator & Superion – If there’s anything cooler than giant robots who Transform into vehicles, it’s giant robots who combine and Transform into even ‘Giant’er’ robots. The Belonging to the Decepticon faction, the Constructicons were a team based on Construction vehicles and combined to form Devastator. The Aerialbots of the Autobot faction on the other hand formed into Superion. Robots that Transform and then Transform into even bigger robots that go at each other? Both definitely get a nod of approval of being cool in their own right.

Unicron – he’s a freakin’ PLANET sized Transformer that eats other planets – need I say more?

Jetfire (aka Skyfire) – was crossed over from another and using the same toy-mould as Japanese transforming jet mecha franchise, Macross VF1 Valkyrie. Just that alone makes for a must have in any collection and instantly ups his cool cred to make the list. He started off originally as a Decepticon but eventually defected over to the Autobot faction.

Starscream – making up for the bulk of comedic relief in the Transformers Generation 1 cartoon. Through his conniving ways and blunders to oust Megatron as leader of the Decepticons and his trademark high-pitched whiny voice, he simply makes for one of the most memorable Transformers.

Megatron to Starscream: “You couldn’t lead androids to a picnic..” lol

Soundwave & Blaster – the faithful sidekick of Megatron, based on his awesome monotone robotic voice alone, I’d say he’s cool enough for this list. Besides that, he has an array of cassette tape Transformers that are housed in his chest which are ejected, which include Ravage, Laserbeak and Rumble to name a few. They fight alongside him and do reconnaissance missions on his behalf.

Soundwave’s counterpart is the Autobot’s communication’s master – Blaster! He houses the cassette Transformers, Rewind, Ramhorn, Steeljaw and Eject.

The coolest thing about these two Transformers is that they’d probably be awesome DJ’s…

Hiya Sports Fans!

Yesterday the Hasbro Shipment arrived and the aftermath looked as if a “Transformers Hurricane” had hit my basement and dumped a whack load of Transformers there (in pristine condition of course

I had a lot of fun shooting the video, opening the boxes and showing all of you Transformers fans out there, as well as what the possibilities are for the Hasbro Prize Packages that my team is assembling! It was so much fun even my mum dropped in on the fun!

What I found was a mix of everything, from Generation 1 (for you ‘purists’ out there), Animated Series, and of course toys from the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Movie.

Here’s a pic of the “Wall of Hasbro” that occupied my basement before the unboxing began

Before pic...

The aftermath..

It took me a while to put this post up because I first uploaded to Youtube realizing they had a 10 minute limit and had to resort to Viddler.

Here’s Part 1:

aaaand Part 2:

Leave some comment love and let me know what you think of what we’ve got going on so far!

Cheers,

Will

PS anyone catch the 80s cartoon reference at the beginning?
